So first off the automatic retractor only tightens the belt with a few pounds of retraction force which basically means YES you REALLY have to snap it in to tighten it. Whoever coined the term "NO-Ratcheting" for the name might have been smoking something stupid back then. Second, they cannot be tightened, I tried turning the lever until it sags a bit, but then the ratchet began to move with difficulty and would not pull. The thing was very loose and could not be tightened any further. There is no way I would use this to provide a load. Maybe the item I received was defective? I will never know because Revain and/or the seller removed all options to ask the seller for help and I was left with no choice but to stab this product in a review to warn others and get my money back . Big fail guys. I would like to add that I am an engineer and I know very well how this type of ratchet strap is supposed to work.
