This is not an instant reading thermometer by any stretch of the imagination. It takes over 30 seconds for it to finally reach its core temperature. This is an accurate thermometer if you have time to wait for it, but the fire is usually quite hot and your hand is on fire before you can take the temperature. Rather spend a little more for higher quality.
