I bought 4 of these, I've cleaned my toilets with limescale as much as I can (don't know what it is). I put them in tanks and after a day or two the deposits are gone and the inside is shiny again. I tested them when I received them and they do NOT appear to be magnetic, nor do they attract metal objects. I installed them about 4 months ago. I don't know what they are made of, but they melt. Now they are very thin and form brown rings in my toilet bowl. I think that means they are worn out. I would like to know what they are made of.
