This mat shuts off the heat as soon as it is turned on. However, it turns out that the initial heating performance decreases slightly after regular use. I set the device to high temperature and the temperature in the tank quickly rose above the optimum. I lowered the temperature and the carpet was perfect. A few days later (maybe it was a cold snap?) the temperature dropped a bit. I turned the unit back on and it stayed at a constant temperature. Even with diaristic temperature increases, I have not yet had to lower the temperature again. (Not sure if that's good or bad?) Both the temperature and humidity in my tank have been stable for over a month now. The entire 30 gram tank is at the optimum level. I only use one mat as it is more than enough to keep the aquarium warm. Overall I am very happy with this item and would buy again in the future if needed! Note: I bought silicone glue to attach it to the fish tank. side of my tank. However, I chose not to use glue (I don't want to damage my tank) and put a small pad of adhesive between the heater and the wall to hold it above the sand level (outside the tank). causes the glass (at this point) to feel quite warm/hot. Please note this and be careful if it does not fit under the subfloor. The surface of this item will become HOT as intended!
