I've been using Thunderbolt docking stations with my MacBooks for years. In my new job I work on a System76 laptop with Ubuntu. Due to the lack of Thunderbolt ports on this device, I needed a USB hub when docking my laptop at the office. I chose this hub because its aluminum finish matches my desktop. The attachment mechanism keeps it out of the way but easily accessible if I need to rearrange something. The mount is surprisingly strong and doesn't wobble when plugging and unplugging devices. Currently connected are a WASD coded keyboard, Logitech C920 webcam, BLU Snowball microphone and Monoprice USB tube headphone amp. Since the hub doesn't have an external power supply, I was concerned that the hub wouldn't be able to power the microphone and webcam. Luckily, USB 3 provides enough power to keep these peripherals running. One odd thing about this hub is that the host cable is a male-to-male USB-A cable. I'm not sure why I chose this cable. This works, but don't count on using your existing USB AB cable if you have a longer cable you want to use.
