I read a lot of reviews before buying the drill, so I was warned about the torque when you hit the roots of the trees. I measured from the tip to the desired depth and painted the perimeter with light colored nail polish. Works great. My husband walks in front of me and only drills to the nail polish and I follow behind with a lightbulb. We did 100 in under an hour. We went around the tree and missed the root.
