I use this lens to photograph high-resolution songbirds, which is nice because the optical stabilization allows me to take great pictures at maximum zoom [400mm] while holding it in my hands . The image quality and zoom of this lens are impressive. There are a few minor quibbles though: sometimes the autofocus 'sneaks' around, as others may have mentioned, but usually only on a relatively distant subject. This lens needs a lot of light. I take the best photos on a sunny day. and I can get great shots even in the shade and on a sunny day, but on a cloudy day it's difficult to get sharp shots with bright details, even outdoors. These two small blemishes are ultimately not a big factor for me. , and I really like this lens and am very happy with my purchase. would recommend. Especially since I bought this lens for around $600 (also in great condition!) and a new Canon telephoto lens will cost $2000. I've included some of the first songbird photos I took with the lens, but please note that Amazon will most likely compress these images and affect the quality.
