Review on Dasaita 9&#34 by Michael Hellewell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent main unit but many things could be done better

Main unit works and I will eventually get it working but needs a lot of unexpected tweaks.1. Mounting brackets are incorrect. You have to bend them to fit the factory frame. This may take a few tries and if you ever get the factory unit back you will have to bend or replace it. I don't think it would be that difficult for Dasaita to fit the correct brackets or otherwise drill holes in their unit to get the installation right.2. Although the description says CarPlay is supported, you need to buy an external dongle to make it work. It's ridiculously underdeveloped. Other Android head units embed this emulator in the head unit, so no dongle is needed.3. The Car Settings app, which uses your car's tire system to change settings, is very sloppy. The English translation is really bad, but the worst thing is that there aren't enough units. I screwed up the "small screen" setting which caused my odometer to change to km and can't be reset using this app. I need to use an OBD2 scanner to reset it to mi.4. When you're on a call, the bottom 10mm of the screen becomes unresponsive (touchscreen icons don't work), even after you end the call, until you end the call. It's like the call bar is still there, blocking the app behind it.5. When I mapped the buttons on the steering wheel, I noticed that the skip/return to track buttons are positioned backwards6. The glue on the GPS antenna is very bad, once heated the antenna fell off. This happened after 2 days of cool weather allowed the glue to "cure". I'd say there are other devices that are much better suited for the same amount of fiddling.

Pros
  • Quality build
Cons
  • Requires socket
