Review on πŸš— GLASS POLISH 21005 Windshield Polishing Kit with DIY Automotive Glass Polishing Solution by Jon Lewis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Saved my new car's windshield from accidental swirl marks!

Did exactly what I thought it would! My story. I tried Aquapel on my new Audi. It's a fluorine-containing polymer that chemically bonds to glass and turns water into spheres like crazy. The app worked fine, but when it was raining and I used the wipers at night, the windshield would almost completely fog up as the wipers went by. It was hard to see and the wipers seemed to rattle all the time, even with new brushes. So I set about removing it - not as easy as you might think. The company said they use Bon Ami cleaning products to scrub/dissolve/remove. So I used it by hand the same way you buff scratches with a vortex remover. It certainly loosened/removed it and the windshield wipers worked much better. Everything seemed great the first day, but that night while driving I noticed swirl marks from the removal process all over the windshield when the headlights were on! I had a little heart attack, I swear. :) So I decided to polish them - I fixed the paint many times. I tried Griots with a glass polishing pad and a drill and it made a *very* small difference, but the swirls were still there. You really couldn't even feel them, so I knew I could sand them down. Next I tried this kit. it worked! I mean it was a lot of work and I probably worked each section 2 or 3 times - cleaning in between - working back and forth, up and down with each section, spraying countless times until I realized the product was broken. enough. I want to say that the entire windshield of my SUV took about 2 hours. However, it completely removed the swirl marks! There were a few deeper scratches from the wiper marks - Audi is known for having "soft" windshields - and that didn't help much, but I didn't care as they happen anyway. Finally the aquapel that didn't fit me is gone and my windshield doesn't whirl anymore! In hindsight, I could probably just skip Bon Ami and go straight to this glass polish kit to remove the aquapel. Spring. At least now I have experience polishing windshields should I ever need it again! I noticed that my bottle says the paste contains cerium oxide with particles of 1.5 microns and not 2.5 like the product photo label. Not sure if they ever changed the compound to be smoother and oops more resilient. I want to remove worn windshield wipers, although removing would require *a lot* of work or maybe a heavier product. TIPS: Completely mask off the hood section, the front edge of the roof and the A-pillars. Try to seal the area under the windshield where the wipers protrude. Don't use a ton of water. Just keep it shod so that the pad can rotate freely. All of this excess water/compound expelled from the pad is waste material and not necessary. My drill also went up to 1500rpm which was a good speed to get great results with less overshoot. I put the clutch on 3 so I don't have to worry about pushing too hard and getting too hot. My windshield has never felt very hot. Use distilled water. The hard minerals in the water can be enough to actually create *more* swirl marks when polishing.
