Review on Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO Open Studio Headphones - High-Quality Sound for Professionals by Ada Nowak ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A really necessary purchase, I'm glad I found this product.

Despite this, we are comfortable recommending them. I've been making use of them for somewhere about 20 years at this point. At first, there was the variant with 600 ohms. These were not pulled by every device. As I looked behind them, I found that they had two tube amplifiers and opamps, and that's when I recognized what sort of headphones they were. After using them for a few years, I began to experience a bounce in one ear, which forced me to upgrade to the 250 Ohm version of the headphones. It's impossible for me to judge whether I came out ahead or behind based on how things sound; both outcomes are satisfying. Now that a variety of sources and amplifiers are available, one thing that can be said is that in order for headphones to play well, they need an amplifier. The amplifier does not need to be something large and expensive; however, the standard output of a phone or laptop may not be sufficient for them. It is possible that there is insufficient damping; however, this is difficult to determine. The sound quality of magnetic planars is something I am not familiar with, but among dynamic headphones, these are among the very finest. You might also take a look at Sinhizers if you're interested in a different option. the same or more costly price bracket (580 or momentums 3) is also quite nice, but it just has a different sound; the choice comes down to personal preference in terms of flavor and hue. You can plug it into a laptop or phone (unfortunately, not all phones) and enjoy the sound. The recommendation is for a USB Type-C DAC made by Miezu. It is a cheap piece of garbage that costs between two and three euros.

Pros
  • Strong acoustics. I've seen these in a few different studios, and the sound engineer uses them to blend the sound based on what they hear in those ears. For this reason, I once purchased them so that I might, in a sense, listen to the version of the tape that the director deemed appropriate.
Cons
  • Adding more texture to the sound. From what I can tell about the lows and the mids, the highs are missing someplace. There may be issues with the assembly of approximately 8 headphones that passed through me. Some of the headphones were married, and the second one cracked after a couple of years. Listening to the item first and reading the guarantee should therefore not be skipped. The headphones have an open design, which is both a benefit and a drawback. When I listen to music at work, my coworkers can hear it, and this does not always make them happy.
