Blackvue needs to get their stuff together

I bought this dashcam based on some reviews I saw on youtube. The picture quality is really good. Installation is not bad at all. The app is barely OK but the cloud service is garbage. I may have got caught up in a transition to a major update to the firmware and the cloud, but I think I have spent more time on the phone with support then using the camera. Here are my points I would like to make public:1) The camera runs HOT, to the touch. I went to go try and fix an issue with it connecting to my wifi at home and when I grabbed the camera from the mount, it was HOT to the touch. I could barely hold it in my hand. This was at night way after any sun might have heated it up during the day.2) There is no status page, so you have no idea how much free space on your SD card, what voltage the camera detects in parking mode, the temperature inside the camera, wifi signal strength, and anything that can affect its usability or has an automatic function should have a status you can look at.3) After the newest firmware that came out mid May of 2021, I no longer get notification displayed on my phone, I just see them in the notification list. Notifications have the local time transposed but if you go to the notification page after the UTC time rolls past 23:59 you need to force the date on the calendar to see notification still relevant for your local time4) Also after the newest firmware, my camera goes through periods where wifi is not enabled automatically every time it turns on. I need to wiggle the wires around to get to the wifi button.5) I paid $450 us dollars for this thing and I only get 10 video views a month for free, and these are not even in the cloud, they are still on my camera. I need to be up close to my camera and using the wifi hotspot to view additional files.6) Even though for parking mode I have the camera set to "Motion and bump sensors" it still records 24/7 and fills up the SD card. This may be minor but they should at least re-label or notify users that it still records 24/77) I also got the LTE module, go read my review of that for a whole new list of issues

Pros
  • The dashcam's discreet design won't obstruct your view while driving.
Cons
  • Viewing footage must be done through the app, no desktop option
