It does what I need - converts HDMI from Roku 3, which only comes with HDMI output, to S-Video to TV for video and surround sound system for sound. Of course, the picture quality isn't as good as native HDMI and doesn't seem as sharp as S-Video, but it solves my problem. It might also solve your problem, but I doubt it's common. Note that 1. the power adapter seems unnecessary and 2. double check that all cables are securely connected (the weird purple screen "HDCP Unauthorized. Content Disabled" appeared first so I was afraid this product would be bad but it was just a bad connection on one of the many ports I need now thanks to Netflix phasing out options on newer models and supporting older models).
