This device allows me to connect ROKU to my XVGA TV which only has RCA and S-Video inputs. Set ROKO to 720p. Due to copy technology, ROKU may show you a purple screen with this setting. Simply unplug your ROKU and TV for about half an hour, then plug them back in. That solved the problem for me.

It does what I need - converts HDMI from Roku 3, which only comes with HDMI output, to S-Video to TV for video and surround sound system for sound. I have a 2004 TV with HDMI but it doesn't support modern HDMI modes so my Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam Link won't work with it. It does a good job of converting to analog S-Video and has a decent picture considering the format it's being converted to. Other similar devices I've used had very annoying motion artifacts, making them totally unsuitable for gaming. **Update 2, September 25, 2016: I'm sorry to report that my two HDMI to S-Video Wiistar converters have stopped working. The video output has jerky jumps/scrolls that are so distracting that it becomes downright awkward to watch. I have narrowed the problem down to the converters and will now try to replace them. This is the second HDMI to S-Video/RCA Composite Converter I've tried. I wanted something that didn't clip off the top and left of the image. The good news is that this one doesn't cut anything. But at 1080x it flickers in color bars with the message "No Signal - NTSC" and then displays the image again.
