This lock may not be what it seems, which I only realized after installing it. I bought this lock because it turned out to be the same as the one I previously bought which looks like the picture. The first one worked the same as shown in the picture. The second must be defective because the middle bar, which is supposed to recline, doesn't. It lies motionless, and the swing loop stops at the rounded edge of the bar and is free to force-slip over it. This lock adds a small amount of extra security. On the first lock I bought the center shaft rotates with the pivoting hinge as shown so the hinge catches on the rounded edge preventing further opening of the door. It was a much more reliable and secure lock. When installing this lock, check the center bar prior to installation to ensure it also reclines and is not in a stationary position. With the second lock I bought, I only noticed it when I installed it.
