The surface is not perfectly flat. You can still make pancakes and omelets, but you'll need to tilt the pan slightly until the bottom sets. The frying pan sits on the stove with no problems. I bought a cheaper frying pan that could fall on the stove because the handle was so heavy compared to the thin cooktop. I am very happy with the pan given the price. Hit distribution is good, which is what worries me the most. The only downside is that the cooking surface is not perfectly flat. It's easy to work around and is what I've come to expect from a budget pan. I've only had it for about a month but I use it often and it still looks and works like new.
