I upgraded my old Windows XP computer system that had a USR5660A 56K PCI fax modem that didn't work on Windows 7. This modem was always connected at 45.2 kbps or 44 kbps. So I decided to add a new modem that can run Windows 7. I initially ordered a TRENDnet TFM-PCIV92A 56K PCI Data/Fax/TAM Internal Modem based on user feedback. I immediately returned the TRENDnet modem because it could not connect at speeds greater than 33.6 kbps, had no built in speaker for dialing and dialing control, and no dial tone and dialing to the standard sound card and desktop speaker spent . Revain immediately authorized the return and refunded my payment including return shipping. I then decided to go with US Robotics and ordered the US Robotics V.92 PCI Software Faxmodem USR5670, which looks almost identical to the USR5560A. However, the USR5670 has drivers for all Windows operating systems after Windows 95 and runs on Windows 7 with the Microsoft drivers included with Windows 7. The USR5670 installed on my old Windows XP computer and worked fine, but couldn't connect at speeds over 44 Kbps. I could not connect at 45.2 Kbps like the USR5560A soft modem. Although I kept the USR5670, it annoyed me enough to try another modem. Then I looked at the US Robotics 56K V.92 Performance per Modem USR5610C, a hardware modem. It works with all Windows operating systems, from MS-DOS to Windows 7 and Linux. The modem is a bit pricey, but I quickly found a USR5610C factory refurbished modem available online for only a dozen dollars plus change with free shipping, a real bargain! I ordered one and installed it simply by updating the flash with software downloaded from the US Robotics support site. This modem allowed me to reconnect at 45.2 kbps, but as a bonus, it maintained more consistent and faster file download speeds than any previous soft modem. In fact, with this modem, I was finally able to successfully download a file that I couldn't download from a site after numerous attempts over many weeks. If you need a low profile PCI modem, the USR5670 includes both standard and brackets. The USR5610C is a standard size PCI modem and will not fit in a slim computer case. Bottom line, the USR5670 soft modem works fine (4 stars) but if you see a bargain priced refurbished USR5610C Performance Pro hardware modem (5 stars). ), act instead! (Note: Make sure you get a USR5610C modem and NOT a USR5610A modem. USR5610A does not work on all Windows systems!)
