Much better than fiddling with RTV

Works great, fits well, all quick and easy. I'm not in favor of using RTV silicon unless that's the only option. This padding is less annoying. It's only a few dollars more than the RTV package you need to build an oil pan. You don't have to worry about letting anything dry before you fill up with oil and go. I couldn't find torque specs for the oil pan on my 2002 Nissan Altima SE 3.5, so I ended up using a 1/4 short ratchet by tightening the bolts from the center and working to the ends in a criss-cross pattern. I gradually tightened the screws, going through each screw 3 times. First I tightened until I made contact with every bolt on the pallet. I then went back to each bolt and lightly pressed the oil pan against the engine. Then I tightened the final torque until I felt resistance in the ratchet. These screws should not be overtightened to ensure the seal is tight. Maybe it's better if you go back and tighten them if they're leaking. Tighten and damage the seal. If you have a torque wrench and torque specs this would be ideal. I've driven about 700 miles and the gasket is well sealed, nothing is leaking.
