This is quite a long knife sharpener - too long to fit in a regular knife and sharpener block so I keep it in my kitchen drawer so it doesn't get in the way. But if you know how to use it, your steel knives, old or new, will take on a great advantage. The extra length can be an advantage if you know what you're doing with one of these, especially with larger knives that can hold a nice sharp edge. It's nothing special - plastic handle, very simple appearance. But I'm very happy with the sharpness. My knives hold the edges better and last longer than most other sharpeners I've tried.
