I've wanted to work with this particular clay for over a year. After showing my interest and learning how to work with clay, I started watching Ace of Clay on YouTube for many years; as well as other equally talented sculptors. In the past they all used wire reinforcement (12-16 gauge floral wire), very fine beading wire, masking tape, and aluminum foil for stuffing. With the same products I still haven't learned how to get such a smooth finish despite using a plasticizer/fingerprint oil; I leave too many random bruises/aluminum bumps. Then I noticed that when Sculpey sponsored them, they all started switching to that clay as a filler, and they loved it; none had used it before, although they used Sculpey products and openly admitted they thought it was just for kids. I wasn't sure what to expect other than fluffy, light weight and can swim in water. lol It's chalky in texture with "dry skin" but is soft and smooth; like chewing gum. I carved it with a wooden sculptor's knife (it didn't stick to any tool), then I worked it on a sheet of glass with an acrylic rolling pin; I also used my Sculpey sheeter (pasta rollers, for example). It rolled out beautifully, but always had a chalky texture, and the thinner it was rolled out, the more it stuck to everything; I have experimented. Oddly enough, I just kneaded it with my hands, and then the texture changed completely. It got slightly sticky and resembled the Super Sculpey Original; it was like heavy clay. Unexpectedly, when pulled out of the edited piece, the clay returned to its original texture within a minute. I found it strange, but I found this strangeness a beautiful thing. It blends in so perfectly I can smooth it into glass with just my fingers. I love it! The only thing I found "awkward" was that it accidentally breaks down when you're working with it. I found tiny white spots everywhere while cleaning and I have pets so will definitely keep an eye on them. The end product after baking is amazing! Ultra light, smooth, soft and workable without cracks; I mean textured and polished. Haven't tried it yet but looking forward to mixing it with colored clay and seeing how it holds up acrylic paint. Can't wait to make jewelry out of it too!
