I used it to watch DVD movies because my laptop doesn't have a floppy disk drive. It's ready to use, all you have to do is connect it to your computer. Very nice, modern look. As the instructions say, make sure you buy it powered if you plan to use it with a USB hub as it draws a lot of power. I use one from Anker and it works great. The only downside to the design is the small cable that comes with it. It's very, very short, non-detachable and apparently not very durable as I have to switch off a lot. Surprisingly, when plugged into my USB hub, it disconnects less often than when plugged directly into a laptop. I would say for the price it's worth buying, it's suitable for casual use.
