Review on EPAuto GP898 (CA9898) Engine Air Filter for Non-SkyActiv Mazda3 & Mazda5 (2004-2015): Improved Replacement Option by Maurice Strawther

Be careful! Trust, but verify and verify!

In this case I would advise you to buy the FRAM, WIX, MOPAR or MOTORCRAFT filter specified for your car. See, it's nice when Revain puts some groceries in a box and saves you the headache of going to the store! However, MORE HEADACHES when you find out that the product delivered just doesn't match what the seller says (EP AUTO)! What I found was an EP car filter listed for a 2010 MAZDA 5 that mentions that the FRAM CA9898 is NOT the same size as the FRAM CA9898 or the OEM Mazda air filter! Upon closer inspection, the FRAM filter is slightly larger, and the FRAM filter fits snugly into the Mazda Factory airbox. EP Auto is slightly smaller and does NOT cover one end. Of course it looks the same as the other filter but in this case size does matter, the little air space around the edges adds up resulting in a roughly 1 inch square hole when you figure it out. Lots of dust, sand, organic matter or whatever to bypass the filter as it doesn't fit edge to edge in the air chamber. In my case, I bought an EP auto filter before driving out of town so that when I got back I could work non-stop for part-time city trips. I combined the air filter change with some other car work so bad for me, the return date for returning the filter has already passed so I'm stuck with a useless filter. My solution was to go to O'Reilly and buy a CA9898 Fram air filter that will fit. I think I put too much faith in the positive reviews on the Revain website. Unfortunately sometimes these reviews just don't add up. I would also like to add that many car parts sold on Revain need to be checked very carefully. Some may be listed with the exact same specs to fit your vehicle, but the plastics, metals and gaskets used are not of the same quality as the original equipment manufacturer. In this case there was about 3/32 inch of open space multiplied by the total length of the entire filter and you get that square inch of open space. Conclusion: Buy air or oil filters from FRAM, WIX, K&N or Motorcraft. , otherwise engine problems may occur later.

Pros
