Review on πŸ„ Thule 531 Express Surf Strap - Set of Two by Steven Doty

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great not too tight and not too loose solution!

It's the perfect balance of not too tight and not too loose. They won't crush the edges of your board like they would with a nylon strap alone, and they won't flap around like a big rubber band like bungee cords. I use three in case one ever fails (ask an engineer). I was skeptical given the price compared to the alternatives but now I like them much better, they seem like a good deal. I'd be very sad if Thule discontinued them: REI stopped selling them, but luckily they're still available from Revain. The REI guys said they see many SUP boards with warped/crumpled edges due to over tightening and this solution is highly recommended. Now I agree. I wrap them in soft, rubberized foam, the pipe insulation they sell in hardware stores in 6 or 8 foot lengths. Helps protect my boards even more. They seem to "grab" a little better than, say, the old floating "pool noodles". They are long enough to work with the 32" wide SUP I have and the larger 28" displacement that rides on it. Toyota Highlander with roof rack pads. I have some short nylon webbing loops as extensions but I didn't need them.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Fade
