thread DMC cotton thread which I use in almost all my cross stitch projects. I like the consistency of the material and the color. I like that it separates easily and that most projects call for floss by color number. I've bought several DMC colors on a cone, not just skeins (although I buy both). I like the cone when I'm doing a project that uses a lot of the same color, even if it's a color I use all the time. I keep my buds in a cupboard in my workshop to protect them from light. With this amount of yarn, it is important to retain the color while reducing the risk of fading in the sun. If you don't have a closet to store them, I have used a dark colored tablecloth to cover my stash of floss in the past.
