The LED never went out!
The remote control worked like the original. The button backlighting was less helpful, only turning on when I could find the button in the dark and then dimly illuminating the channel and volume buttons. My biggest problem was that I was changing the batteries every month before realizing the LED never went out! After my third set of batteries in as many months, I pointed my phone's camera at the LED to see it blink, even without pressing any buttons.
