Review on Fortessa Royal Pacific Slotted Spoon: Durable Stainless Steel, 10-Inch Length by Michael Paquette

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Very obvious fake. Buyer beware.

I'm reviewing the San Marco Antiqued flatware set. I have come to find that if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. I bought a set of 20 pieces at a store and after I got them, decided I wanted to purchase another set, however, the store I bought them at was out of stock. I then found these - the 4 sets of 5 would be $50 less than what I purchased them for in the store so I bought them. That was a mistake.Starting off, there were many flaws in the finish of several pieces. They looked like they were cheaply antiqued and there were a lot of color inconsistencies. Very unlike Fortessa as I have more than one set of Fortessa flatware. The real ones are very high quality and each place setting is consistent with the others. Second issue, the weight and shape. In my original set, each piece is similar in weight to the others of their like. The set I got from Best Buy felt different in my hand and each weighed several grams less than its counterpart in my original set. Also, the shape of each piece was off from the original set. The knife blade was a little wider and the serrated edges were barely there. The arch of the forks were higher and the shape of the tines different. Finally, the stamping and printing on the plastic covers was not consistent with Fortessa's. The square stamp on the fakes pieces was quite a bit larger, blurry and less detailed than the stamp on my real Fortessa pieces. The printed logo on the back of the pieces was also different. While the name stamp on the back of my real Fortessa set is very clear, the fakes are not. For example, the 'registered' logo on the fakes is illegible where on the real set is nice and clear. Also, I mustn't forget that the boxes are not Fortessa boxes. Fortessa setting boxes all have a wide blue stripe down the length of the white box. These did not. They looked like the big box my set of 4 place settings came in. Plain white with logos. No place setting of Fortessa flatware (not even the ones in the box set) I have ever purchased was in a box like that. This links to the Best Buy Fortessa store but clearly is not Fortessa. Buyer Beware!

Pros
  • very high quality--love!!
Cons
  • The slotted holes can be difficult to maneuver when trying to strain and serve at the same time
