Excellent geocaching gps

Explorist 210 bought mainly for geocaching. I've had it for a month now and it works very well for geocaching and the included geocaching software is easy to use. You can download .loc files from geocaching.com and open them directly in Geocaching, which saves a lot of time. I manually copy the clues as they are not part of the .loc file so I can geocache without paper copies of the cache details. use it. The 210 model is ideal for this purpose. I let my kids guide me to the hideout and enjoy finding it. My six year old can even read the screen and tell me where to go. The device works accurately with WAAS and I can usually receive 10-12 satellites. I even catch 3-4 satellites indoors. I'm usually never more than 10 feet from a cache when the device says I've arrived. Most other Magellan and Garmin models do not have built-in geocaching capabilities. You'll need to spend a lot more for models that do this than 210. 210 displays caches directly on the map and treats caches separately from waypoints or points of interest. I've read in other reviews that the 210's screen is easy to scratch, so I took the Palm Pilot screen protector and put it on the screen and I've had no problems even with kids using it. The battery life is excellent. I use rechargeable AA batteries. When you're not using the backlight, a set of batteries can last you a full day. However, the backlight is great for caching at night. There are several inexpensive add-ons that you can buy, so you don't have to buy expensive Magellan add-ons. You can buy almost any inexpensive USB car charger (mine is around $7 including shipping) to charge your device while driving. Simply connect the cable that came with the 210 to the 210 and plug the USB end of the cable into your USB car charger. The device will NOT charge batteries when connected to AC power, but the device is powered by the USB cable and not batteries. You can also purchase a Radio Shack A/C Vent mount for cordless phones (part # 17-548). Looks like it was made for an explorer. I have not yet used the turn-by-turn ride. The device seems sufficient for this, but does not shine. After reading the manual, you will NOT get an automatic route calculation (if you miss a turn, the device will NOT recalculate the route). All route segments point directly to the next waypoint (in a straight line) and do not follow any roads. Before you start driving, you need to download the route to the device, and the device will prompt you at each turn, but not by sound, only by a message on the screen. The base map is decent with all state roads and highways. You can use MapSend Topo to add more detail to the device (not sure about other MapSend maps).
