Great Product: Handheld GPS

Bought an Explorist 210 for my 65 year old father to go hunting and fishing and he loves it. If he can figure it out, anyone can. Loading maps is a bit confusing. He decided to only use what came in the kit.

Pros
  • Good Value
Cons
  • Protection

Don't waste your money on a 14 year old GPS

It was so old my son gave it back to me. Even the software on CD was released for free in 2005 (14 years ago). Current laptops cannot detect the update or the website allows the update. Don't waste money.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • So so

Great GPS, good for portable GPS

Affordable, easy to use, packed with features. Durable and waterproof, with built-in compass and other features. Can connect to a computer. Ideal for beginners or experienced geocachers. It is also very useful for hikers and hunters.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Magellan eXplorist 210

Love it! It works great and is easy to use. I use mine for geocaching and hiking and it's up to the task. I'm deducting 1 star because the included map software is pretty useless and requires an additional purchase to be useful. The device includes major roads by default. So if you're not using it for street-level navigation, that's good enough. Despite this, the device has enough storage space for many POI, route and geocache files, and file transfer is quite easy. For the price, that's a…

Pleasant surprise

I wanted a good handheld GPS for light hiking. After seeing many reviews from Garmin and Magellan I decided to give the Explorist 210 a try. I read a few reviews here on the Revain site about how difficult it was to upload maps using the MapSend software, but I had no problem. We recently visited Hawaii and I was able to download maps of the Big Island and Kauai as separate detailed maps. I have used the suction cup in two rental cars for traffic information. The detailing was excellent and…

Great for geocaching!

*** Updated 11/11/2008 - The listed price of $387 at the time of this update is ridiculous! Go somewhere else to buy this item! *** I bought this item over a month ago and have no complaints. When I first started researching which GPS device to buy, I was looking for an exceptionally good geocaching device. However, as I continued to search, I began thinking about buying a more advanced device that could be used for both in-car navigation and geocaching. This approach has been narrowed down to…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Excellent geocaching gps

Explorist 210 bought mainly for geocaching. I've had it for a month now and it works very well for geocaching and the included geocaching software is easy to use. You can download .loc files from geocaching.com and open them directly in Geocaching, which saves a lot of time. I manually copy the clues as they are not part of the .loc file so I can geocache without paper copies of the cache details. use it. The 210 model is ideal for this purpose. I let my kids guide me to the hideout and enjoy…
