Screech like a pig! in Parts & Components

First of all, I like Kool Stop brake pads the most. They brake great and fit well too. I used a lot of cool suspenders from old school blocks for these chic panty liners. I will not buy any other brake pads for my bikes because I ride year round and need something to stop me in rain, snow and other adverse conditions when most other brake pads just skip the rim. The Kool Stop Salmon does its best to slow me down quickly in bad weather. They also turn me over when I brake hard in dry weather, so I always have to be careful with that. Pros: - These guys have a huge braking surface. - They have a scraper at the end to keep your slices in place. clean and free of dirt and grime - They flex for better contact with the rim - The hardware is nice and helps set the pads quickly and securely - Great stopping power in all the conditions I've ridden Cons: - A bit pricey - They wear out quicker than some other brands and board materials. I still put them on for several hundred kilometers - the pink quickly gets dirty after driving around the city streets in the rain. It's fine, but don't expect your brake pads to look stylish after a ride in the rain! They scream! Poorly! I know most people assume they are installed incorrectly. You are not. The instructions say not to "toe" the pads as the extra material on the back will take care of that. I put them down like this and they squeaked. I put the pads in and they squeaked. I adjusted them in different directions and they squeak. Sometimes I can get them to stop squeaking for a few rides, but if I deign to touch the pads to adjust them, they start squeaking again. They don't squeak in the rain, that's better, but once everything's dry it's time to squeak again. It's not a simple scream either. I feel like braking hard gives me two blocks warning to stop and approach. I actually like it a bit because pedestrians who aren't paying attention to the road and are crossing in front of me at a red light actually hear me and look at me before I run over them. The problem is that every time I stop I feel like a noob who doesn't know how to service his bike. It sucks! I ended up sending back the second set I bought because I couldn't stand the squeaking. I'm keeping the first set because they brake very well and I'll miss them when they wear out. If you don't mind hearing a deafening screech every time you stop, and you definitely want to stop quickly, do it. Otherwise, you might want to consider some of the other great Kool Stop strains.
