Review on 🌲 SainSmart Wood LightBrown 3D Printer Filament: A High-Quality Light Solution for Precision Printing by Jesus Olsen

Updated: Prints fine, very very brittle, clumpy appearance on printed objects.

Update: 02/05/2021: I'm fed up with the cheaper "wood" filaments which are just wood colored PLA (not real wood and so extremely difficult to sand). Decided to try this thread going well in 2019 or so. It doesn't seem to be the same quality. It's very, very fragile. It's so bad I can't even unwind it enough to load it into my printer. It only breaks when it rotates. I thought there might be moisture in there (the bag that came didn't look sealed like the other threads, it was closed but there was air in it). I put it in a filament dehydrator for 10 hours and it was still brittle after that. I carefully cut and printed a test object. The printed object has an uneven surface. Decided not to waste any more time. I'm sending it back. Old review below: ========================== Printing - Prints well. You have to be careful not to use the very high temperatures used for ABS. I use a nozzle temperature of 200Β°C and a bed temperature of 60Β°C and it works well. Grinding - Grinding works better than PLA. It's like sanding hardwood (which is used for floors). But it can be polished. Staining - will not stain like wood (advertised as paintable). In fact, in my experience, it doesn't rub off at all. I steeped it in dark tea for 24 hours. It looked like it was stained, let it dry for a few hours and rinsed under tap water and it washes clean. I tried regular stain and it stays on the surface like paint. It doesn't seem to absorb like real wood. I also soaked it in water to see if it softened. Water doesn't seem to bother him. In general - I like it as it looks like non-glossy wood. I wish it could be colored. Temperature changes don't seem to affect the color. After some sanding, it has the color/texture of a cardboard box (think the surface of an Amazon.com packing box). If it's acceptable, it looks good. Edit January 24, 2015: Finally done with the role. Everything prints without jams. The thickness was the same throughout the roll. A NOTICE. There is a dark brown version of this yarn from the same manufacturer. It seems very different. I checked SainSmart Imported 1.75mm Dark Brown Wood Filament 1kg/2.2lb for Reprap, MakerBot Replicator 2, Afinia, Solidoodle 2, Printrbot LC, MakerGear M2 and UP 3D Printers! (Afinia H series).
