I surprisingly bought this electric sharpener to sharpen pencils which it does well. The only basis for comparison is my childhood 110v powered sharpeners which could be heard across the room and weighed 2lbs. This 12V DC sharpener is powered by an adapter. Its motor is more efficient than the air-conditioned motors of the late '70s and propels the blades through multiple gears, but while older model sharpeners cut a new pencil point in under 1.5 seconds, this one discreetly wheezes. For the price I think it's worth it considering we only use a very small amount of wooden pencils.
