Review on πŸ”§ Irwin Vise-Grip PowerSlot Diagonal Cutting Pliers (1902412) for Precise and Effortless Cuts by John Floyd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very good (and expensive) scissors.

As the description says, half the effort. I compared cutting old phone cords to these, a slightly smaller Craftsman wire cutter and a pair of Diamond brand wire cutters that are a hair too big. Put the wire as deep as possible in the jaws of the cutter and they really cut with half the force. It requires extra movement of the handle to get extra leverage, so for things like copper wire, cutting zip ties, etc., a regular pair of wire cutters would be more convenient. However, for larger or tougher wire or nails up to 16p, I prefer these wire cutters due to the lower effort required. The jaws are perfectly aligned and even cut through paper, which is a good sign. The jaws of the cutter must be very well aligned and close together almost exactly to make a clean cut of the paper. Any mismatch shows up as an irregular cut. My only caveat is the price. Stanley makes similar cutters, not as powerful and not as accurate, but three times cheaper. For occasional use they should offer similar cutting performance at a lower price, but if you intend to use them frequently they feel like a truly professional one.

Pros
  • The three-piece compound mechanism with PowerSlot design delivers maximum power with twice the cutting power with half the force of standard pliers.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
