Highly recommended! Industrial Electrician with Carpal Tunnel Surgery

I have a pair of Irwin 8 inch wire cutters which are a cheaper version of these and I love how these bad guys cut, so the fact that I got the Cadillac version was for exciting me. (I work as an industrial electrician so a new quality tool never goes out of date. I received them quickly and tore open the packaging and they looked even better in person. I started cutting all sorts of different wires I had lying around; 12 ga .stranded speaker wire, ethernet wire, coax wire, even a coat hanger…

Definitely NOT higher quality than the cheapest pliers

I am very disappointed with these pliers. I really fought between them and a pair of Knipex pliers. I chose them as they are clearly marked as Made in Germany and also noticed that they are made from high quality steel and of course they cost three times as much as standard Irwin pliers. I'm not one to use these tools to make money, but I don't like tools that break. I regret buying these pliers. They're no better than the $14 Irwin pliers. I cut 12/2 wire (NOT live wire) and the wire cutters…

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Low repairability

It doesn't get any better until you can get it

These pliers were made by NWS in Germany especially for Irwin. While Knipex is the best known German company for making very high quality pliers, NWS makes the same high quality steel and arguably makes some of the best cutting tools in the world. They're also known for having some of the most comfortable grips in the business. I believe that Irwin and NWS ended their partnership, probably because the cost of these tools did not match the cost of typical Taiwanese consumer tools. who embody…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Almost OK

Dirty craftsmanship.

I ordered them in May 2020. They still say "Made in Germany" (by NPS). Unfortunately the kit I received had metalwork defects that should NOT have left the factory floor. Where there was an exciting piece of metal, one side was riddled with mounds of metal (like pickaxes). Due to these irregularities, the mold could not close completely. Also, the top handles are so THICK that they also prevent the tool from fully closing unless you use some hand force to push down (where you then meet…

  • Induction hardened cutting edges cut the toughest materials including ACSR, nails, screws and even piano wire. Coated for excellent rust protection.
Cons

Very good (and expensive) scissors.

As the description says, half the effort. I compared cutting old phone cords to these, a slightly smaller Craftsman wire cutter and a pair of Diamond brand wire cutters that are a hair too big. Put the wire as deep as possible in the jaws of the cutter and they really cut with half the force. It requires extra movement of the handle to get extra leverage, so for things like copper wire, cutting zip ties, etc., a regular pair of wire cutters would be more convenient. However, for larger or…

Pros
  • The three-piece compound mechanism with PowerSlot design delivers maximum power with twice the cutting power with half the force of standard pliers.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

*Update from 03/19/19* No quality, but.

*Review update March 19, 2019* After contacting Irwin, I received a response and a free replacement for my problems! While my initial pairing didn't last as well as I had hoped, I can't stress enough how great Irwin was to work with. They did not justify themselves and offered no alternative solutions. Rather, they saw their product begin to fail and immediately honored their "Limited Lifetime Warranty." My advice? If you are looking for wire cutters from a company that stands behind their…

  • Made in Germany. Backed by IRWIN's lifetime warranty.
