Saved me so much time! My existing Firex smoke alarms are 15 years old. Last week one started beeping and wouldn't stop even with a new battery. Then I read online that the average lifespan of a smoke alarm is 10 years. Also, interconnected wired detectors must be of the same brand, as much as I want to replace all my detectors with smart detectors, having 10 units on three floors, $1,200 for new smart detectors was out of my budget. I had to replace my old Firex detectors with Kidde/Firex. This adapter fits the new Kidde/Firex so all I had to do was replace the ceiling plate (a few screws to loosen) and then hook up this new unit to my existing Firex wiring. Replacing the block took five minutes. Requires no rewiring, making this a do-it-yourself job even for a beginner. Spend the extra cash on this handy adapter and you won't regret it!
