Quality unit

Firstly, the camera arrived quickly as one would expect from Revain. The camera turned out to be surprisingly detailed. The frame and body of the camera turned out to be metal and durable. Before I bought it, I read some reviews and was a little worried about the installation. Now I have to say my truck is a Toyota Tundra with an aftermarket rear bumper and this probably made the installation easier as the inside of the bumper is much more exposed than most factory bumpers. Despite this, I decided to use the performance of the license plate light for this camera. This really required a multimeter because the light wires weren't exactly black and red and I wanted to be absolutely sure I was getting the correct positive and negative readings so as not to fry the unit when I turned it on. I am convinced that this is the way to go with this device and will not go to great lengths to connect it to the reversing lights. This is because, as other reviews have noted, it takes a few seconds for the WiFi to connect and the image to appear on the smartphone. It seems best to turn on the camera as soon as you turn on your car. So when you turn reverse gear on, the camera/wifi is probably already working. Time will tell if running the camera all the time will shorten the life of the car. I consider myself reasonably competent. Installation took just under an hour from opening the box to seeing the image on my smartphone. Again, I probably saved some time by not having to struggle with finding power and running wires in tight spaces. But I was able to complete the installation with just what was in the box, plus tape, a few zip ties, and tools. And the connections are solid and as good as any professional work I've seen. I bought this camera to make it easier to connect to my trailer. When I got the image and ran it on my smartphone, I was able to return to ball hitch with one shot (which never happens to me when I connect unaided). I did this in the dark so the night vision was on and the picture was black and white. I've found it's even easier to get an accurate backup on a day when a regular HD picture was active. Advice; The camera is adjustable up and down until you tighten the top screws on the plate frame. At this point the position is fixed and the camera will not move until you loosen the screws. So I am very satisfied with this product.
