I bought this particular unit a few years ago with no backlight capability and it has served me well. I decided to buy a backlit model for those who have trouble reading in dark areas around the house. Works as advertised. You can see the backlit screen from any angle, which is great. I mainly use it to calculate the device power for my solar system at home, i.e. H. Pure sine wave inverter. The backlight turns on for a few seconds, enough time to see my readings. The only downside to these wattmeters is that they are so bulky when plugged in that they take up space even in the 2nd outlet. You'll need a tiny extension cord if you've plugged something into a different outlet. It's also a good weight which means the components should be of the best quality, but I didn't open the unit up to check it out. If you are looking for a wattmeter that displays watts, amperes, volts and kWh and stores the last reading, then this device is for you.
