I wanted an IR thermometer specifically for checking frying oil temperature and monitoring wort temperature when brewing beer. This thermometer does the job! When I first got it, I played with the temperature control on a variety of things: in the window, then outside, in my fridge (pointed at the fridge wall), a glass of tap water vs. chilled water - you get the idea. If I could, I would! The people at Cascadia are very helpful and have sent me several emails with tips, tricks and pointers on how to get the most out of the thermometer. I haven't used some of the advanced features, but it's nice to know I have hardware that's complex and useful, yet very affordable. I also love that it comes in a nice velcro pouch so I can keep it in my desk drawer without worrying about it getting dirty and dusty over time.
