I bought these for a trip to Yellowstone. I wanted something decent but couldn't bring myself to shell out a few hundred for something I only used occasionally. I also didn't want an unexpected downpour to ruin my binoculars. Well I can't comment on the waterproof part as we had great weather but we spotted a lot of animals in the distance and these binoculars gave great clarity and magnification. These were by far the group's favorites when viewing the animals from a distance. They are a bit heavy for hiking although they have a very nice wide padded strap that comes with them so going around the neck is not out of the question. This type of binocular is larger and heavier in construction and I knew it was going to be so I didn't cut the cost at all. Importantly, they were used by multiple people and anyone could customize them. quick and easy for a clear view of any animal we spotted from afar.
