Review on UPERFECT Computer Portable Monitors Raspberry 15.6", 60Hz, Blue Light Filter, Wall Mountable, Glossy Screen, Built-In Speakers, DS15607 by John Falcon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice screen, thin, light and ready to go - I wish it had a better stand.

The display itself is great. I use it as a secondary monitor for 27" 4K and as a portable display for my 2018 13" MacBook Pro with 4 Thunderbolt 3/usb-c ports. It worked right away with just a USB-C cable. macOS Mojave picked it up straight away, offering plenty of scaling options to choose from. I usually use it under my 27 inch display scaled to the 1680 x 945 equivalent so it's easy to read but works very well when scaled to a higher resolution equivalent when I use it as a Use primary or wearable secondary display. It has a few flaws, but those are just side issues. The "stand" supplied is technically designed for a smartphone or small tablet. It even has a label on it. The stand also has a built-in bottle opener. To be honest I'm glad they put something into it, but it really isn't enough. It's heavy for what it is and hard to pack into a usable configuration. They could do much better here. I ordered a linked leather flip case (a shame actually, bought it when I bought the display as there was a combo discount) so will update my review when it comes out. It seems like a leather case was originally intended to be included. The other issue I have, and a very small one at that, is that while I appreciate the inclusion of two USB-C cables, which don't work for both video and power, they are fairly short (they look as if they were 3 feet long ). I couldn't place the display on the other side of my main monitor because the cable couldn't reach it and when I needed extra power I couldn't connect it. However, I can buy longer cables to solve this problem. , so no big deal. Overall I am very happy so far and if the display came with a leather case/stand I would probably give it a 5 star rating. UPDATE 2019-08-02: I've had this display for a while and it's still quite nice. I got an actual case/stand for it and while it's a slight improvement over the included 'smartphone holder/bottle opener' it's still a little disappointing. It doesn't have a lot of "ribs" to position the display at the desired angle, and there was no way to secure the display. I had to find some screws of the right size to attach it. Another issue I've encountered is the design of the case when acting as a stand, meaning the bottom of the case protrudes a lot and interferes with keyboard placement. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. Turns out I was wrong in my original rating, a case would not have raised it to 5 stars. the odd phone stand it originally came with and the leather case/stand. It's not perfect yet, but I can handle it. However, I've since found that it turns off and on frequently when using it, and I've downgraded my rating to 3 stars. It doesn't last long (about 5-10 seconds) but it bothers me at work and happens 10-15 times a day. Initially I thought it might be a USB power delivery issue since I'm using a single USB-C/Thunderbolt cable, so I tried plugging an external power adapter into the USB-C power port, but it absolutely didn't Difference. I also tried an external power supply with an HDMI cable but couldn't use it long enough to check for the issue as it was only HDMI 1.1 and didn't support 4k@60Hz (which means macOS has limited scaling options and it was basically useless to me). I'll try to use a better USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 cable and a mini display port + external power supply, but I'm not very hopeful.
