Good design

I wish I could give 5 stars but I can't. First the details. The cutter is reliable and performs as advertised, and while I haven't had a chance to put it to the test yet, it's certainly capable and deserves to be called robust. This model is defined as a 12 inch paper cutter, however it should be noted that the cutting table is NOT 12 inches wide horizontally. Its width is 13 3/8 inches vertically from rail to rail. The total horizontal width is 11 inches. You can cut 12" x 12" paper, but the movable guide cannot be used on paper wider than 9 1/2 inches. The red button lock is 1 3/8" wide and can only be used in a position that is at the end of the horizontal rail and no farther. Totally. Removing and replacing the moving rail is very quick and easy with no tools required. ( intended to delete) IF. You need to cut paper larger than 9 1/2". If you are using a moving guide, this is not the model you should buy. Without using the moving guide, it will cut 12-size paper x 12 and 13 x 19. The plastic shield on the right looks like a finger guard or safety device (and it is), but it's much more than that. as the paper cutter begins to cut, it pulls the paper towards the cut edges and "may" cause the paper to slip. The paper stays in place without clipping your nails or fingers. Unfortunately, this also creates an unpleasant side effect, which is only minor e causes irritation. did. (Very minor inconvenience) The cutting blade is strong and not spring-loaded. The cutting blade is held in place or in the up position by friction alone. This requires regular tightening of the nut/bolt stud as detailed in the owner's manual. . (The good news is there is no spring that breaks over time). WHY didn't I give this cutter 5 stars? the area is approximately 1/64 inch. This runout is a product of the riveted rails. The thing is. the one YOU buy can be perfectly square and has a 90% chance of being perfectly square. This tiny deviation from the square is a manufacturing tolerance created by riveting the guides rather than machining the guides. You won't find any really significant deviations. square problems, but placing objects in space with precise tolerances is out of the question with this cutter. I do NOT use this cutter to cut multiple sheets at once. This entire review is based ONLY using one sheet. well built and exceeds all but the most precise requirements.
