Review on πŸ”§ High-Quality OTC (8031) Chrome Ball Joint Set for Jeep/Truck: A Reliable Suspension Upgrade by Chris Wilson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

almost perfect, working,

excellent quality. Comes with excellent instructions for use. Bought this kit to replace the pivot pins on a Dodge Cummins 01 4x4 2500. Worked fine until I tried prying the bottom pivots out. The receiving cup is not quite correct. This will push the joint out, but not as smoothly as if the head were right. Sizes range from 1/16" to large. I recommend applying an anti-seize compound to the new joint. If it feels tight when you slide it in, slide it back out and start again. Don't try to force it. the picture in the listing does not match the size of the kit this is a large kit and heavy don't waste your money on a port freight press like me a cheap chinese press will flex while the joint laughs at you even if You get frustrated and decide to use your oxy-fuel torch to heat things up and knock them out with a hammer, DO NOT do this! The ball joint explodes about the time it starts turning red. Wonder where I'm from that knows. Damage to my shop proves it! If you've never disassembled a steering knuckle on a Dodge 4x4, read on. Some special tools are required. It has 4 mounting bolts, remove p ie 2 on opposite corners. Move the other 2 back about 3/8 inch. Use a bushing and extension between the bolt head and the end of the axle tube. Rotate the knuckle so that the combination bushing extension is captured between the bolt head and the axle tube. Start the engine, turn the steering wheel until you feel the sound of the steering wheel. You just moved the bearing assembly assembly 1/16 inch, move the bushing/extension to the other screw, start and rotate. Repeat until the mounting bearing is free from the knuckle. Be very careful when removing the axle shafts. Mixed up. The seal and differential must be removed from the body to replace the seals.
