I've read a lot of reviews saying it's too hard and some that it's too soft. From someone who hasn't sculpted in over a decade, I was under the impression that it was significantly softer than I expected (based on some of the feedback here), but also noticeably harder than the old plain white sculpt I was using at the time. It's much more resilient to minor accidents than soft clay, yet easy to work with. I think next time I buy clay I'll try to order SS Firm as I like to work with a lot of small details. When it comes to hardness, polymer clay of any variety can be mixed. It does not "dry out" but can become significantly harder with age if not worked with. For example, the ten year old soft white sculpt I have is still very usable, but it's ORIGINALLY much stronger from not being edited for so long. It will return to its softness after you work with it for a few seconds. If you get too hard clay even after conditioning, you can knead the proprietary SS clay softener or use some baby oil (which is cheaper) to make the job easier. Don't mix too much! If you're getting clay that's too soft, your options are a bit more limited/boring. You can put it in the fridge but obviously after a few minutes of work it will soften up again. You can also roll it up into thin flat sheets and lay those sheets on scrap paper for a while until a nice stain appears on the paper (the paper pulls some oil out of the clay and makes it harder).
