Review on πŸ”’ Enhance Security with McGard 76029 Premium Pickup Truck Tailgate Lock in Black by Douglas Coronado

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Extremely overpriced poor quality shackle

This lock is a poor quality shackle with an inferior plastic shell. Standard clamps are .028" thick, Β½" wide, and have slots for the adjustment screw teeth. This tailgate lock is a .028" thick, 3/8" wide yoke (1/2" wide with plastic bushing) with pressed in grooves for the adjustment screw teeth. Instead of a hex head with a slot for a screwdriver, a head that fits your key The hose clamp is installed in a plastic sleeve that aligns the wrench with the screw head.On the 2018 Tacoma, the tailgate shell is slightly narrowed, and the plastic grommet on the tailgate latch causes it to slide off the shell, rendering it completely ineffective. The large plastic shell which is used to align the key and screw head also interferes with closing the tailgate. If you remove all the plastic leaving only the metal strap you will see that it is just a smaller strap.Once the plastic is removed you can it snaps onto the tailgate shell, but being only 3/8" wide, it's narrow enough to pry up the shell and anyway to remove the tailgate.
