Review on Enhance Home WiFi Connectivity with πŸ“Ά TP-Link AV1000 Powerline WiFi Extender (TL-WPA7510 KIT) by Trish Stott

YMMV: Expensive for 70Mbps over Ethernet

It was easy to set up. Followed the instructions and everything worked pretty quickly. I also tried the WPS button to change the SSID to my current WiFi network. It worked fine too. A trick: In my case it tried to do WPS for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. But my router stopped after the first pairing! I was confused why it wouldn't connect both. The trick was to start WPS on the router, touch Wifi on the device once the first pair of frequencies (LED lit), go back to the router and press WPS again to connect the second frequency. I get 70Mbps over Ethernet. It is installed on the opposite side of the 4 bedroom house from the router (also from the ground floor to the second floor). I feel like I paid too much for 70Mbps. Update: Ethernet still works fine. Wi-Fi is hit and miss for me. I configured it to use the exact same WiFi SSID, next time I can try setting a different SSID to see if it works better. I couldn't update the firmware via the cloud. I downloaded it manually and it updated without any problems (just make sure you're using the US version; for some reason I originally downloaded the EU version and it obviously didn't work). The firmware update hasn't improved the TX/RX speeds I'm seeing. Update 07/25/2018: My hardware version is TL-WPA7510 v1.0. On the TP-Link site I see the new version v2.0.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Sad hardware
