Whiteside beats are excellent and this one is no exception. Let me explain how I used it. Made a rather elaborate cutting board for my brother's music teacher's birthday. The plan was to glue a layer of ebony veneer between each of the keys to simulate a subtle shadow. I made several orders for ebony veneer and returned them because they weren't the same black. So I deviated from the plan and decided to vein the surface of the ebony and hard maple keys and then vein the veins with ebony stain using an old ink pen. The 60 degree blade angle allowed me to apply the stain to a depth of about 1/32 inch, giving me sharp black lines just below the surface. I then covered the lines with epoxy and sanded the excess epoxy off the surface. It worked great. BTW, this board was made for show, not for cutting food.
