Nobody wants shavings or splinters on their hardwood or laminate floor. But the choice is small when an accident happens and they happen. The best but most difficult process is to strip the ground from the motherboard to the damaged plate to replace it with the spare part you had after the initial installation. . The second best option would be to carefully cut the damaged panel, remove the bottom notch or tab on one side of the replacement panel (depending on your circumstances), and then tape it down with a stack of heavy books, weights, or volunteers to sit for at least 12 hours. The third and easiest would be to live with the damage, but that is the most unsightly and leaves room for further damage from peeling, chipping, etc. So that solution is the fourth, ie repair. No repair, especially if done by us do-it-yourselfers, means that the result is no longer visible. I just think we'll just watch a few videos, hopefully read the instructions, and dive right in. This hard wax repair requires quite a bit of "artwork" in my opinion to achieve an acceptable result. Also, as I understand it, repairs need to be done as soon as possible! Why? The dirt will immediately turn the pressboard black and will be visible through the hard wax on all outer edges of the repaired area where the wax is obviously thinnest, especially on lighter tones. Both of my repairs were older. One is about a year old and the other about 2 weeks old. Both are located in high traffic areas. When I cleaned the shavings they were all black with dirt. I thought maybe I should snap off the groove until I got to a cleaner brown press board, but I didn't as the video didn't. So I was able to easily fill and align the chip for the time being. The color was hard to hit. I might decide to do it again and this time I'll bring my dremel and grind it down to a simpler shape and report back.
