I had another stirrer that was on TV that was under ten dollars. Do not worry. But the search continued - home cooks don't have a sous chef to stir, and we have to cook a lot of things at once. Freeing ourselves from one task so we can do everything else better is a significant benefit. This beater has real muscle - the motor is geared, so it beats with real power. I made risotto yesterday and he mixed everything for me. He only stood in the pan stirring for about half an hour, not me. It is adjustable and works with pans of different diameters and heights. Charges fast, in an hour or two. I've kept it running steadily for an hour without slowing down and I'm sure it will last much longer on a single charge. But there's no reason why you can't charge it while stirring. So if you put it away and the power runs out, you can still use it as long as you have an outlet within reach of your stove or an extension cord. Cleverly designed so it effectively rubs the bottom of the pan, stirring it and covering everything. It does a pretty thorough job of mixing. Maybe even better than me! That's the build quality. Everything is durable to make it last. The good news is that the stirrer is dishwasher safe - you want that because of course it's all about what you stir and it needs a good wash. You can clean the rest yourself, but it doesn't get dirty and is easy to wash off. The size can be controlled. It won't take up much space. The only improvement I would like is a better box to store the 3 pieces and charger instead of the box it comes in. I secured this box with tape and used it to store the StirMATE, but that's actually what it is. twice the size needed and not very durable. Finally the price. I'm willing to pay more for something this strong and durable! It's nice to see a quality kitchen accessory at a price that can be expressed in just two numbers. If you are looking for the gourmet gift of a lifetime, this could be the perfect choice. It's new and not sold in kitchen supply stores, so your gifted ones won't know about it. And when you first see it, its purpose is not clear. But when your gifted one uses it, you'll be reminded that you've given the perfect gift. And its durability will remind you of this gift every time it takes on the difficult task of stirring.
