The photo shows this quick release buckle on a Shoei RF-S helmet. The overhang of the belt is pulled together with two rubber bands (white, photo). I didn't have the heart to cut off the extra strap. I love this product very much. Yes, it's not as slick as the quick release straps you'll find on helmets sold in Europe, but it's better than having to deal with D-rings. I don't understand why manufacturers in the US put these D-rings on almost every helmet! Either way, there's a learning curve with this Echo Quick Release, but once you get the hang of it, it'll be very easy and quick to open and close. it is separate. Installation is non-destructive, you can remove it at any time (pliers may be required to remove).
