The chain is not very strong. I bought two of these. One for the Irish Terrier (40 pounds) and one for the Beagle (60 pounds). I used them to help study. I didn't want to use a chain. My beagle, Elvis, broke away from me on a walk to chase a squire who had climbed a tree. This was the second day of use. Thank god he stopped by a tree for me to grab him. I thought maybe it's just a defect. However, two weeks later, the one on my terrier broke when I tried to tie him to the leash. She didn't even pull that hard. The leather strap was good so I just bought a quality chain and made my own with the leather strap. Now both collars are tight. It's a shame that a better chain wasn't used from the start.
