I was visiting my family for about a month. Apparently my husband and teens don't know how to wipe out the inside of a microwave! I wish I had taken the before and after (maybe not - I would have been completely embarrassed!). Mom did a great job and loosened the accumulated dirt and grime. My son makes popcorn every night so the walls are covered in greasy oil too. My son complained about "that unpleasant smell" (vinegar - that's too dramatic). So I got it working again by simply adding water and a few drops of lime essential oil. I'm thinking of sending it to all my sisters and nieces!
