This stand pushed ALL the right buttons but there was a mix up which was quickly rectified by a call to Stromberg Carlson. The picture and instructions showed that the bike's clamping mechanisms were a locking ratchet, and what we originally got was a friction "wing nut" and safety pin. When explaining the problem to Stomberg Carlson's customer service, they quickly explained that there had been some changes and offered to send all the necessary parts to fix the problem. It turned out to be new racks, new bike clamps and all horizontal bars (which arrived two days later)!. This bike rack is now very easy to mount on your bike and easily converts from a two bike bike rack to a four bike bike rack. The horizontal bars supporting the bike carriers fold down for storage, and when the luggage rack is down the trunk can be folded towards the car to minimize the distance it protrudes from the rear without loaded bikes. I think I've looked at all the platform bike mounts and especially for my girlfriend who is a bit petite this one has the most features, it's the most versatile and Revain's shipping and Stromberg Carlson's service are second to none. The only thing missing is a way to attach the carrier to the car. I ordered a cable lock to attach the rack and bikes to the receiver. All in all I couldn't be happier
